Call to Worship
We gather as heirs of the covenant,
bound to God's promises by our baptism and grace.
Let us lead a life worthy of our calling as disciples
and offer God our devotion, our trust, our service and praise.
Come, let us worship God!
Prayer of Confession
Lord of life, your name outshines the sun. Draw us out of the shadows of fear, doubt and shame. We confess that our faith is frail and we grow compassion fatigue in the face of so much need. We spend more time in worry than in prayer.
Forgive us where we have stopped being interested in the stories of the oppressed. Heal us from resignation in the face of our planet's vast needs.
Restore, empower and embolden us as your disciples, we pray, and give us a fresh anointing for devotion and service to you. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer. (Time for silent confession). Amen.
Scripture Reading: Philippians 1:21-30
Affirmation of Faith
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death ─ even death on a cross.
Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
