Connect & Deepen
What is Theology?
Discover the form of our faith
What do we mean by God, Jesus, revelation, the Church, salvation, worship, ethics, mission, sin and redemption? In some ways, all of us are trying to take what we read and hear from the Bible and in worship and figure out how they connect with our experience and outlook. This is the task of theology, and this class will be an exercise in “connecting” and “deepening” ourselves as more reflective theologians so our work and worship in life will be more meaningful, more “connected” and “deepened.” Led by Dr. Carl Badger

Sola Scriptura Class
Led by the Rev. Tom Robinson, Sola Scriptura is a somewhat traditional Bible study, engaging both the mind and the spirit. As the class name implies, the emphasis is upon the scripture itself, rather than prepared materials. Each session is completely self-contained. Tom indicates, "I learned years ago that if you penalize someone for being absent last week, he or she will likely be absent next week." Class sessions, therefore, generally begin with a short contextual review, the presentation of the text itself, then followed by study and discussion. During the past several years the class has studied, among other scriptures, the Gospel of Mark, the Acts of the Apostles, Paul's Letter to the Romans, and the Gospel of John. During the summer of 2009, the class examined and discussed selections from Paul's Letter to the Ephesians. All are welcome to join us; no long-term commitment is required.
Fall 2009 Study: The Epistle of James (September), followed by Revelation (October-November)

Fall 2009: Pursuing a Deeper Prayer Life
Location: Upstairs Education Wing.

As we learn about the Trinity, we discover that God is a God of relationship. Throughout the Bible we learn as well that God calls us to be in relationship with Him and in community with others so that we may be the Church – the Body of Christ. We also find that we have been made new, are children of God, Christ’s friends, saints, citizens of heaven and God’s temple…for God’s spirit dwells within us. Do you experience this renewal and closeness with the Trinity most days?
How deeply have you considered that, though God does not NEED a relationship with us, God WANTS a relationship with us? Most often, if not always, we develop and enrich a relationship with someone by spending time together, sharing life experiences, thoughts and feelings. Do you find yourself talking with God as naturally as you would talk to a close friend or spouse? This is one key aspect of prayer that is life-changing.
If you would like to take part in a study and practice of prayer, please join us in the Trinity Class as we seek to build deeper relationships with God, ourselves and one another. We will spend time each week discussing and developing the key means by which we grow more intimate with God. What would it be like to approach God with our whole selves: body, soul, and spirit? Join us and let’s find out together.
